Katie Smith Hons. B Kin, NDKatie Smith is a naturopathic doctor and is currently lecturing and supervising at the student clinic at the Universidad Ana G Mendez Gurabo campus School of Health Sciences. She completed her clinical residency at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine and her Naturopathic Doctorate at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine where she was selected to receive the Naturopathic Honour Award in her graduating class. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Honours Kinesiology with a minor in psychology from McMaster University.
During her clinical internship at CCNM, she focused on general medicine as well as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. She also completed a rotation at the Sherbourne Health Center community clinic, which provides free health services for the general population as well as the LGBT community. Dr. Smith also has an interest in global and community health as she feels this is integral to the health of the individual. She has travelled to Haiti to volunteer with Naturopaths Without Borders and has been a speaker for the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF). She also has a special interest in women's and children's health. Her decision to study naturopathic medicine stemmed from her experiences working with clients in chronic pain as a kinesiologist, her travels abroad as well as her passion for the environment and the outdoors. She wanted a career in health that encompassed current knowledge of biomedical science and traditional wisdom and practices. Naturopathic medicine was the perfect fit. |
